A wise man told me that if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. I think that my parents always wish that they could teach me how to fish the way that I wanted. I suppose I’m more the fish than the fisherman. I didn’t train at drama school. I haven’t got grade 8 singing. I’m not well-versed in laban notation. So as a fish, I’m not a particularly juicy one. But I did decide that I wanted to be a fish in this particular pond. Any audition is another chance to perform; not a test, and I’ll leave that room buzzing as if I’d just walked off-stage from opening night at the Apollo Victoria. I don’t think you can teach talent, but it can be honed. Some get a degree or take exams in order to prove their talent. Unfortunately, the methods with which I’ve honed my talent don’t entail receiving a certificate upon finishing. Does this mean that I’m any less worthy than anyone else in this pond? Give this face a chance
